Step-by-Step Instructions

STEP 1

Create Your Google Classroom

Set up your class page with all the essential information

  • Navigate to classroom.google.com and click the "+" button
  • Select "Create class" and agree to the terms
  • Enter your Class name (e.g., "Educational Technology - Spring 2025")
  • Add Section information (e.g., "Section A" or "Period 3")
  • Specify the Subject (e.g., "Educational Technology")
  • Add Room number if applicable (optional)
STEP 2

Customize Your Classroom Style

Make your classroom visually appealing and personalized

  • Click on "Select theme" in the top right corner of your classroom
  • Browse through the available theme options and select one that fits your teaching style
  • For a custom look, click "Upload photo" to add your own header image
  • Recommended image size: 1000 x 250 pixels for best display
  • Choose colors and themes that are professional and easy on the eyes
STEP 3

Take a Guided Tour

Explore the key areas of Google Classroom

  • Navigate through each tab to familiarize yourself with the interface
  • Explore the Stream tab for announcements and class updates
  • Visit the Classwork tab to organize assignments and materials
  • Check the People tab to manage students and co-teachers
  • Review the Grades tab to track student performance
STEP 4

Share Your Class Code

Provide the class code so your instructor can join

  • Find your class code on the Stream page (left sidebar)
  • Click on the class code to view it in a larger format
  • Copy the class code (it will be a 6-7 character code like "abc1234")
  • Share this code with your instructor via email or the course platform
  • Note: Class codes can be reset if needed from the Settings menu

Google Classroom Tour

Familiarize yourself with the four main areas of Google Classroom. Each section serves a specific purpose in managing your digital learning environment.

Stream

The main hub for class announcements, updates, and discussions. Post important information, share resources, and keep students engaged with timely communications.

Classwork

Organize and distribute assignments, quizzes, and materials. Create topics to categorize content, set due dates, and attach resources for student access.

People

Manage your classroom roster. Invite students, add co-teachers, view student profiles, and control who has access to your classroom.

Grades

Track student progress and performance. View individual and class-wide grades, export grade data, and provide feedback on submitted work.

Use Topics to Organize

Create topics in Classwork to group related assignments by unit, week, or theme for better organization.

Set Clear Due Dates

Always include due dates and times for assignments to help students manage their time effectively.

Post Regular Announcements

Keep students informed with weekly announcements about upcoming assignments, reminders, and class updates.

Review Privacy Settings

Ensure your classroom settings protect student privacy and comply with your institution's policies.
